Reporting Covid with Report@charlestonmathscience.org
- Please use Report@charlestonmathscience.org to let us know:
- If your scholar has tested positive for Covid.
- Or, your scholar is showing Covid symptoms and you are keeping them home to monitor.
- Or, your scholar has been identified as a close contact off campus.
- This email will go to our nurse and our staff assisting with managing academic supports for your scholar.
- Please let us know immediately if your child tests positive for Covid. There are steps we must take to help prevent any further spread and to make sure your scholar has the academic resources and supports needed.
Mask Use:
- Masks are required on all CCSD school campuses, including CCSMS. Face coverings are required indoors for students, employees, and visitors. CCSMS will follow the CCSD Mask policies. No prohibited funds will be used in the enforcement of mask use.
- Masks will be worn on all school buses, consistent with the CDC Federal Order under the Public Health Service Act. ( Bus Policy )
- Masks will be worn by all who enter a school health clinic and athletic training space inside schools.
- An opt out form has been provided to those families who had previously opted out of wearing masks this school year. If you would like to consider options for your child, please review this Form.
Scholar Activities and Clubs
- Scholar Activities and Afternoon Activity Buses will be taking a 3 week hiatus.
- We will restart on October 12, 2021.
- This does not include Afternoon Academy.
- This does not include Fall Athletics Teams.

The information on this page will be updated as new guidance is issued by the state or federal government.
The current plans for the 21-22 school year are underway. Per requirements, here are the initial plans (Safe Restart CCSMS Plan July 2021) aligned with compliance guidance. A more user friendly version will be developed with clear protocol and steps we are taking.

Scholar Non-Compliance with COVID Safety Measures
Masks are required on the CCSMS campus at this time.
Please note, we will be implementing the following with scholars who are not following verbal instructions to wear a mask when in a CCSMS building or at a CCSMS event. This process parallels CCSD. Scholars with medical, developmental, or religious exemptions will remain in effect if filed this school year.
Scholar Non-Compliance with COVID safety measures:
Staff will start by reminding scholars they should be wearing a mask. Scholars will be offered a mask. Scholars will be asked if they need assistance with getting the mask to fit properly.
First Occurrence of Non-Mask Use:
• Instruct scholar to wear his/her mask, reteach behavior
• Provide a mask, if the scholar does not have one
If the scholar continues to defy the verbal instructions, document their activities in Educators Handbook as a Refusal to Obey - COVID19 (270)
• Warning with parent call and documentation in Educators Handbook
• Send home for the remainder of the day (document as a partial day suspension)
Second Occurrence of Non-Mask Us:
• Instruct scholar to wear his/her mask, reteach behavior
• Provide a mask, if the scholar does not have one
Documentation in Educators Handbook as Refusal to Obey - COVID19 (270)
• Parent / scholar / Administrator / Teacher Conference
• Send home for the remainder of the day (document as a partial day suspension)
• Document on referral and inform scholar I parent: next offense may result in a move to temporary remote learning
• scholars with IEPs: schedule an IEP meeting to discuss a possible move to temporary remote learning
Third Occurrence of Non-Mask Use:
• Instruct scholar to wear his/her mask, reteach behavior
• Provide a mask, if the scholar does not have one
Documentation in Educators Handbook as Refusal to Obey - COVID19 (270)
• Parent call
• Send home for the remainder of the day
(document as a partial day suspension)
• Removal to temporary remote learning for 1 month (20 school days)
• scholars with IEPs: case manager must schedule an IEP team meeting to determine the length of time (not to exceed 20 days)
Fourth Occurrence of Non-Mask Use:
• Instruct scholar to wear his/her mask, reteach behavior
• Provide a mask, if the scholar does not have one
Documentation in Educators Handbook as Refusal to Obey - COVI019 (270)
• Parent call
• Send home for the remainder of the day
(document as a partial day suspension)
• Removal to temporary remote for the remainder of the semester
• scholars with IEPs: case manager must schedule an IEP team meeting to determine the length of time (not to exceed a semester)

Reporting positive cases and identifying close contacts immediately will help us keep our numbers down in the coming weeks. Please email Report@charlestonmathscience.org. Do not wait until the next school day to let us know of a positive case. We monitor that email and take action to limit the spread of Covid.
Please do not send your child to school if they are sick or showing symptoms related to Covid 19
If your scholar is symptomatic or sick, please do not send them to school.
