Communication from CCSD and SCDE - SC Ready Information
The South Carolina College and Career-Ready Assessment (SC READY) program is a required
statewide assessment in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 3-
8 and science for students in grades 4 and 6. Students in grades 6-8 will participate in single-day
assessments for ELA Reading, ELA Writing, and Mathematics.
SC READY assessments are untimed, but must be completed during the same school day they
are started, unless your student has an accommodation to test a single subject over multiple days.
Items on SC READY will include multiple choice, technology-enhanced items, evidence-based
selected response, and text-dependent writing. Evidence-based selected responses will require
students to read a piece of text or a passage and choose the best answer from answer choices.
The text-dependent writing item will require students to read a piece of text or a passage and draw
upon that text for their extended written responses. SC READY tests are aligned to state standards
and what is taught in your child’s classroom.
An online video tutorial for the online administration
of SC READY, as well as Online Tools Training can be accessed via the following link:
https://portal.te.drcedirect.com/SC.
More information on the types of test items your student will
encounter during testing, along with some sample questions, is available via the following link:
https://ed.sc.gov/tests/middle/sc-ready/information-for-parents/.
SC READY must be taken in-person even if students are enrolled in full-time virtual/online learning
instruction.
In accordance with SC test security law and State Board Regulations, students are prohibited from
having any electronic device in their possession during testing. This includes, but is not limited to,
cell phones, smart watches, smart glasses, wireless earbuds, and electronic translation devices.
All electronic devices will be collected prior to testing by the test administrator for return to the
student at the end of testing. Noncompliance with this requirement will result in discipline
consequences. This restriction does not apply to electronic medical devices that are
documented for use in a student’s IEP, 504 Plan, or Individual Health Plan, such as those
devices needed for monitoring diabetes as an example.
