COVID 19 Updates and Links

The information on this page will be updated as new guidance is issued by the state or federal government.

CCSMS is implementing mitigation strategies on campus during our hybrid schedule.

Please refer to DHEC and the CDC for additional information about COVID 19.

CCSMS will report positive cases per the protocol established by DHEC.

These cases will be posted by DHEC on the DHEC site.

Notification Protocol:

When a scholar, staff member, or contracted service provider (or any person physically in-person on campus) has tested positive for COVID-19, that person will be required to stay out of school for at least 10 calendar days and will be directed to isolate. Nurse Randazzo, in cooperation with DHEC and MUSC will begin contract tracing to determine if there are individuals who have had “close contact” with the person who tested positive.

The CDC recently updated the definition of “close contact” as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

Dependent on the findings, we will implement the following types of notification:

  • Direct Notification for “Close Contact”:  Anyone who has been in “close contact” with the COVID-19 positive individual during the time he/she was contagious must be excluded from school for 14 days after last contact. The parents of any scholar who is determined to have had “close contact” with a COVID-19 positive individual will be notified directly (same day) by school personnel through a phone call and an email from the school.
  • “Not Close Contact”: Individuals in the school who are determined to NOT have been in close contact with a COVID positive person will NOT be notified unless it is determined to be necessary in consultation with DHEC.
  • School-Level and Broad Notification:  When it is determined, in consultation with DHEC and/or health agency officials, that a school, group, team, etc. requires a special notification beyond the direct notification for close contact, the district and/or school will utilize phone calls, emails, or written notification to parents as appropriate and necessary.
  • School Posting: CCSMS is posted on the State DHEC page.

Self-monitoring, wearing masks, physical distancing, testing, tracing, quarantining, and isolating will help our region of the state manage this process. Someone who is sick or who is waiting on Covid test results should not be in the building or on campus. If we are contacted about individuals on campus who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive by contact tracers, or other individuals, we will act swiftly to isolate them and move them from the campus.  MUSC, DHEC, and CCSD will assist with all of the protocol of tracing and isolating.
